Wash it Off – The Do’s and Do Not’s about Washing Motocross Gear

Before I go on lecturing you about motocross gear, here’s one very important question I’d like to ask you, “How much of an investment have you already made on motocross gear?”

While you’re jotting down the cost and trying to sum it up for the final answer here’s a thing I’d like to tell you ‘a fresh motocross gear set is almost ½ the cost of your bike (almost)’. That is because it includes so much than you practically think about it – there is a range of equipment that is practically included but here I’ll just talk about the jersey and the pants.

Considering that even the jersey and the pants that you’ve selected are of top-notch quality and made from the finest material, this is typically an investment that you’d like to last and that is exactly why it is important to know the many ins and outs of looking after your kit and ensuring it lasts enough to save you from the horror of a second big investment.

Considering that there are many brands and range of gear are made of a few different materials, particularly high-end pants with leather on the insides of the knees, you need to be very careful with what you use to clean them or you could damage the gear and shorten its lifespan.

Here are some ways mentioned that we’ve taken some good time to put together on how you should be taking care of your moto gear.

Generally, you would be required to follow the many instructions on the care label which is attached with each individual product. However, if you cannot manage to find the label then here are some good and basic guidelines you can follow in order to avoid damaging your gear during the wash.

Read further and get the information you are actually looking for:

· Avoid the use of oxygenated detergents such as Napisan, stain removers, spot clean, bleach, or soaking agents. Washing your gear using any of these detergents may cause the color to run and/ or the leather panels to collapse.

Additionally, the manufacturers' warranty does not usually cover damage caused by not following care instructions listed here or on the instructions printed on the tags of the garments.

· Make it a habit to wash gear immediately after riding and do not leave it in your gear bag for a long time.

· It is important to turn your gear inside out before giving it a full wash.

· Wash by hand using only a very mild detergent or machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Avoid anything otherwise to improve the life of your motocross gear.

· Hang out to dry in a ventilated area out of the sun.

· Do not wash gear with any item which has velcro as it can damage jerseys.

· Do not tumble dry.

· Do not iron.

· Do not use a pressure washer on any of your gear.

The Do Nots about Washing Motocross Gear

· Avoid the Usage of Bleach – This is definitely the most unsympathetic way of cleaning anything and the chemical in bleach will only strip the color from the fabric and destroy the leather in the knees – something you are not looking forward to.

· Avoid the Usage of Oxygenated Detergents – An oxygenated detergent will absorb all of the oils from the leather in the knees of your dirt bike pants. This will cause the leather to dry up and become stiff. This will eventually cause them to crack and disintegrate completely.

· Do Not Tumble Dry – Your gear gets knocked around enough on the bike, you don’t want to beat it up any more than you have to!

· Do not Iron – If you iron your motocross gear you will most likely melt it. Especially your motocross jersey!

· Avoid Using a Pressure Washer On Any of Your Gear - Pressure washers will destroy your gear, the force will blow the oils out of the leather knees on the pants. If you don’t know how this could be possible, think about the last time you accidentally shot yourself in the foot with the pressure washer - it would've felt like somebody had used a cheese grater on you.

· Don’t Keep the Dirty Gear in Your Bag - If you leave mud on anything for long enough it will stain and sweat destroys the material. If you touch an old pair of footy socks you will notice it feels more like builders sandpaper. It’s your choice but nobody wants to be riding around in stained sandpaper gear!

Consider these points to ensure that your motocross gear is always taken care of and are always in the best condition what so ever.
