Things to Consider when Buying a Used Dirt Bike

There is a larger population of the younger generation that has keen interest in dirt bikes and is looking for one reason or the other to buy these bikes to finally be able to hit the road.

Honestly, I believe there is a passion in these bikes – the way they leave a gush of wind behind, or the sound, or just the comfort of the perfect ride – everything absolutely mesmerizing. But, then are things that particularly need to be considered when buying these MX bikes and these are all very important things.

Consider all of these points mentioned below and see what all you need to consider –

1. Do Your Homework Well – The first and the foremost thing that you need to consider is your own homework – this includes everything about the bike, the model number, the manufacturing date, and everything that has been associated with it. Also, when talking about the homework relating the MX bike you have to ask the seller about the kilometers for which the bike has been run and whether any parts of the bike have been repaired or damaged over a period of time.

It is really important that you need to consider all of these points and then decide if this bike is worthwhile for you and if there is anything else associated with the bike.

2. Be Very Clear with Your Budget – As a buyer it is important that you have your budget well set and are very clear it with. Your budget should be established after checking the cost of a new MX bike and the difference that can be lined down over a couple of years of it bike’s use. Once you have the budget set settle down it and keep an extra space if there may be required. This extra space should be the balance that you may be willing to spend in case the bike calls for some more for purchase.

Another thing with the budget that you need to keep in mind is your homework relating to the bike again – understand what the common cost of the bikes of the same model and years of usage.

3. Do Not Be in a Hurry – Your bike is an important investment and you should therefore take things slowly. Do not be in a hurry to buy I in a day or two without having to understand the things about the bike, the parts and any other changes that have been brought about.

Give yourself some time to decide and have at least some options ready right in front of you so you know which one you are to choose and why. These options should be decided on a number of criterion (mostly the pros and the cons) and your set budget for purchase.

4. Examine the Bike Condition – The bike condition will determine if it is worth your money and all the rides that you have been planning to go on. Consider some of the questions that you may have to keep in mind when examining the bike condition –

· Why is the bike being sold?

· Have there been any major problems with the machine?

· What maintenance may be required post the bike purchase?

· How long has the bike been owned?

· How many races are on the machine?

· Have there been any major crashes? What damage was sustained?

· How are the various MX gears functioning?

5. Frame the Damages – Another important thing to consider are the damages that the bike might have sustained over a period of time. Frame all the damages and understand why has been done to restore the bike in this condition – you need to be aware about these damages in order to understand what you may need to look into in the future.

6. Maintenance Cost – Last on the list of the things that need to be taken care of includes the maintenance cost of the bike. You will understand a basic understanding of this by looking at the condition of the bike and then by getting rest of the information about its usage and care. The seller might be able to explain to you about the maintenance cost and rest of the information you may be able to get through the research that you have carried out as part of your homework.

Consider all of these points mentioned above and buy your first dirt bike and feel proud of yourself – because honestly this is the going to be one of the best treasures of your life.
